We set out a group of three with purely the aim to cycle from Bishkek the capital of Kyrgzstan to Osh the city of the south. We had no prior expectations or cycling touring experience. But what we found was so much more than I could ever have planned. The people, generosity, fellow cyclists stories, landscape and environment continually both surprised and inspired me. To this place one day we will return for it will forever be in my heart.
This journey turned into an exhibition I curated called ‘Wish you were here’ I colledcted images from 3 other photograpehrs and printed the works in the style of post cards using the orgioanl hashtags & comments printed on the back. My idea being that we use Instagram as our modern form of postcards to our loved ones, we all love to share and know that others enjoy the knowledge of what we are up to. ‘Wish you were here’ was displayed in The Bath Arts Fringe festival.
Site 3 was originally built to house 4000 government officials for up to three months in the case of a neclear attack during the cold war. It was kept up and running until the late 1990s and officially declassified in 2004. Everything still remains unused.
The Object of Memory
This project looks at peoples relationships with objects that are linked to their grandparents. I was intrigued by the idea of keepsakes and how Western culture uses objects to preserve memories.
In transit was a series created during a time living in a temporary home in a working yard. It is a collection of images I selected that showed that subtle balance between a space that was both home and not a home.
